Performance Absence Make Up
All concert absences, excused or unexcused, will require a make-up assignment (see below). Concerts may have an additional out of school dress rehearsal. Please plan ahead by checking the concert calendar to check for any dates that may conflict with your schedule. A list of additional rehearsals will be handed out well in advance.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES FROM PERFORMANCES/ REHEARSALS
- Student must submit an ABSENT REQUEST FORM (Located on-line) for each absence to the Director of the organization.
- All advance absence requests require the note to be turned in to the Director ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE.
- A student misses a rehearsal or performance due to an emergency, the student should turn in a note of explanation immediately upon his/her return
EXCUSED ABSENCES FROM PERFORMANCES/ REHEARSALS
- Personal illness - advance notice appreciated.
- Religious Holiday/Event.
- Family wedding
- Out of town family commitment
- Death in family.
- Vacations WITH PARENTS.
- College Visitation
- Observation of other school activities or other performance groups
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES FROM PERFORMANCES/ REHEARSALS
- WORK IS NOT CONSIDERED AN EXCUSED ABSENCE - your first obligation is to your school and its activities. Employers should be notified well in advance of your school event schedule. Provide them with a copy of your schedule to assist them in scheduling your hours.
- Homework/Studying for exams/SAT/ACT/AP
- Concert Tickets
- Any excuse not listed above. This includes miscellaneous excuses that have not been approved by the Director.
MAKE-UP REQUIREMENTS FOR CONCERT ABSENCE
It is the parents and students responsibility to contact the director for the make-up work.
Make Up Work must be turned in within ONE WEEK from the date of the missed performance to count.

CONCERT ABSENCE MAKE UP OPTIONS
1) Concert Review
Do a Concert Review on a classical concert of your choice. Please have your concert choice approved by Mr. Cocchiola. Your review should be at least 1 page typed. Attach a concert program to your review.
2) Program Notes:
Write program notes that could be included in a concert program. Discuss three pieces you are performing. Follow the format given. Research the piece, composer, music, style period, etc. Include what your sources are on an additional piece of paper.
3) Careers in Music
Choose a career in music (including but not limited to music business and music industry) to research and write a 3 page typed, double-spaced report. Include necessary aptitudes to be successful in this field, training, job outlook, job location, employment possibilities, salary, and job responsibilities. Use the two resources listed below and list in a bibliography (in correct format) any and all resources used.

4) Choose from the following topics to research and write a 3-4 page report about:

Choose one: (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th cent.) (You should focus on classical music if you choose 20th century) Discuss time periods, geographic centers of musical activity, important composers, important genres, instruments, etc of the time period. Be sure to include vocal genres of each period. You must have a minimum of 3 sources. Include a bibliography of your sources (in correct format). Your report should be 3-4 pages typed, double-spaced.
